Dante

Created by Blake Edwards, Dick Powell originated the role of Nightclub owner Willie Dante in several episodes of “Four Star Playhouse” from 1952-1956. The series co-stars Regis Toomey as Lt. Manny Waldo.

"Four Star Television" decided to "spin off" the character into a series, starring Howard Duff.  (1960-1961 TV series.)
